Cowboys keep four tight ends, showing how much they value the position

Over the years, Jason Garrett has shown how much he values the contributions tight ends make. So it was hardly surprising that the Cowboys decided to keep four of them Saturday when they pared down their roster to 53 men.

Jason Witten, Gavin Escobar, James Hanna and rookie Geoff Swaim were retained. Swaim, a seventh-round pick, made a positive impression during training camp because he resembles a “Y” tight end – the inline type who blocks.

“He’s a young player,” Garrett said last week. “There’s no question about that. He goes about it the right way. I think he recognizes the room that he’s in with coach Pope and with Witt and the other guys.
