ARLINGTON — On July 15, with one swoop of the pen, Dez Bryant eliminated the Cowboys’ greatest potential distraction of training camp. Signing a five-year, $70 million contract extension assured that there would be no speculation about holdouts, Bryant’s mindset or his status for the upcoming season.
For that, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett is thankful. He said as much Monday at AT&T Stadium, where he delivered a speech at a coaching clinic conducted by his staff the day before the team departs for Oxnard, Calif.
“You don’t want the business of the NFL to creep in as you get closer to the season,” he said.
