Absence of first-round pick doesn't diminish draft expectations for Cowboys

FRISCO -- In terms of electricity and sheer excitement, let's just say what took place at The Star during the first round of the NFL draft didn't come close to what the franchise experienced 30 years ago.

That happens when you trade your pick six months earlier. If the Cowboys had it to do over again, they would. Amari Cooper's impact was undeniable. Without the receiver's addition, it's doubtful the team would have made the playoffs or invited head coach Jason Garrett back to be part of Thursday's proceedings.

The value of this draft for the Cowboys begins in Friday night's second round.
