The Cowboys have a handful of notable players they would like to re-sign such as Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, Byron Jones, Robert Quinn & Blake Jarwin, but it is unlikely Dallas will be able to retain them all.
Jerry Jones & Stephen Jones continue to express that Dak Prescott will be the Cowboys’ franchise QB for years to come, but would the Cowboys have to franchise tag Dak Prescott to keep him from testing the free agent market? Both sides have been unable to come to an agreement on a long-term contract extension & the latest reports suggest Dallas will use the tag on Dak if they can’t reach a long-term deal by the franchise tag deadline. A Dak Franchise Tag isn’t the worst idea, but it’s not ideal for either party.
Amari Cooper has been one of the NFL’s top wide receivers since the Cowboys traded for him in the middle of the 2018 NFL season, but Cooper will be a free agent & the Cowboys are prioritizing a contract extension for the veteran wideout. However, there have been NFL rumors circulating that the Eagles could sign Amari Cooper if he is not retained by the Cowboys. Will Dallas let their star WR join an NFC East rival?

Byron Jones will arguably be the best CB available in 2020 NFL free agency & it seems unlikely that the Cowboys will be able to re-sign the pro bowl CB, especially after the latest Cowboys news that Dallas met with Cooper & his agent at the NFL combine & decided they will let Jones test free agency. If that happens, it is reported that the Cowboys will have interest in Broncos CB Chris Harris. One of the most consistent cornerbacks in the NFL who is a savvy veteran, Harris is a ballhawk that the Cowboys have been lacking in the secondary. Byron Jones is an elite cover corner, but has never been able to get takeaways.
