The Dallas Cowboys battled against the San Francisco 49ers in week 1 of the 2019 NFL preseason, but came up short in a 17-9 loss versus the Niners. Dak Prescott played one drive, but the majority of the Cowboys starters did not get any action. Travis Frederick is an exception as he played in his first game in over a year. A lot of the younger players are battling for spots on the Cowboys roster & preseason is the prime opportunity for these players to make an impression. Blake Jarwin impressed as he hauled in 4 of his 5 targets for 51 receiving yards. Other notable Cowboys receivers include Devin Smith, Cedrick Wilson & Michael Gallup, who only had two receptions but drew a pass interference call that would’ve likely resulted in a catch. Tony Pollard had a limited number of reps, but he comes out a winner because the Cowboys showed they like to move him around as an offensive weapon.

On defense, Chidobe Awuzie & Jourdan Lewis had strong showings by keeping opposing receivers locked up during their short stints on the field. Rookies Luke Gifford & Donovan Wilson each made an impact by snagging interceptions vs. the 49ers. They are off to a good start. Mike White did not look so hot. His most notable play was a fumble which resulted in a turnover. Jon’Vea Johnson hauled in 3 catches on 8 targets & 2nd round draft pick Trysten Hill was practically non-existent.
