The Dallas Cowboys need Randy Moss

In 1998 the Dallas Cowboys had the 8th pick in the NFL draft. There were quite a few good players available, including Randy Moss. Moss believed the Cowboys would select him with the 8th pick, and he couldn't wait to begin a career with Dallas. Instead, Dallas chose Greg Ellis with the 8th pick. Moss felt the Cowboys disrespected him, and he made the Cowboys pay. He had 35 catches, 662 yards, and 10 touchdowns in 7 career games against the Cowboys.

Moss retired before the beginning of the 2011 season. He had 954 catches for 14,858 yards and 153 touchdowns for his career, making him a shoe-in for the hall of fame. Many believed Moss retired early, and that he still has a little gas left in that tank. Late last week Randy came out and said that there were six teams he would listen to if they wanted him to come back. The Dallas Cowboys were one of those teams.

Miles Austin is currently injured, so the Cowboys number 1 receiver is the injury prone Dez Bryant. Nothing against Dez, he's a great receiver, but he is often injured and is only in his second season in the NFL. Austin is a great receiver when healthy, but how do we know his hamstring won't continue to bother him over the entire season? We don't. So let's say that hamstring continues to bother Austin, and Dezgets hurt at some point. Are you happy with Kevin Ogletree and Jesse Holley being the starting receivers for the Dallas Cowboys? Those two guys have exactly 17 career catches between them. They are not playmakers and Moss is, which is exactly why Moss is a great fit in Dallas.

Moss knows he isn't the same receiver he used to be, but he does know he could still have an impact ona playoff team. Some may be concerned with his attitude problems, but he seemed to be under control during his days in New England. So trust me when I say Moss isn't going to be the diva receiver that he once was. He is chasing one thing, and one thing only right now. A Super Bowl ring. Moss sees the Cowboys as a legitimate contender in the playoffs, and he believes he could be the missing piece. They already have a great quarterback in Tony Romo, their young offensive lineman have held up pretty well, and they have some playmakers in Bryant, Austin, Jones, and Witten. Rob Ryan has completely changed this defense for the better, so are the Cowboys actually missing anything? Yes, and it's receiver depth. Moss could be that number 3 receiver. He is the type of guy who could fill in for one of your top 2 receivers and you wouldn't miss a beat.

Jerry Jones may be reluctant to sign a receiver like Moss. Jones has already put up with Terrell Owens for 3 years, and he may not want to do that again. But Owens had some of his best seasons with the Cowboys, and that could be because of Tony Romo. Romo knows how and when to get it to receivers. That's what Moss likes about the Cowboys. He sees a great quarterback in Romo, he sees touchdowns, and he sees a playoff contender.

If the Cowboys want to win they will go out and sign a veteran receiver to be their third guy. Maybe they sign someone other than Moss, but I believe Moss is the best man for the job. We've already missed on Moss once, so this time Jerry should roll the dice. Sign Randy Moss, because you don't want to make that same mistake of not signing him twice.
