Cowboys News: DC Rod Marinelli Lacking Confidence In Starting CB Morris Claiborne?

In this Cowboys news and rumors update, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli isn't exactly beaming with praise for projected starting cornerback Morris Claiborne.

Per David Fucillo of SBNation.com, "Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr are expected to start on Sunday, and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli was not exactly effusive in his praise of Claiborne. The Cowboys used a high first round pick on Claiborne in 2012, but he has been incredibly inconsistent. He also has dealt with numerous injuries, and apparently will need a pain-killing shot before Sunday's game."

When asked about his confidence level in Claiborne, Marinelli was straight to the point:

"Well, he's there. He's our starting corner. That's the confidence. He's gotta go do it."

It's likely that Marinelli is letting Claiborne's starting spot speak for itself, rather than coming out and giving him a full verbal vote of confidence. However, the young defensive back will undoubtedly have to prove his mettle early and often to secure a starting spot for the entire 2014 season.
