Cowboys NFL Draft Rumors: Everything You Need To Know Heading Into Draft Week

The 2015 NFL Draft is just a few days away, and there’s plenty of reason to be excited about the festivities in Chicago if you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan. Here’s our breakdown of everything Cowboys fans need to know heading into draft week.

Cowboys To Steer Clear Of Adrian Peterson?

If Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones is to be believed, the Cowboys are an unlikely trade fit when it comes to Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson -- especially when it comes to their draft picks this year.

“I don’t see that happening,” Jones said of a potential trade on KRLD-FM recently. “I think draft picks are so important for us. That’s where your value is in this salary-cap era. I see us using all of our picks and hopefully do it in a good, wise way. Hopefully when the draft is all said and done, we’ll have really improved our football team. I don’t see us using any picks to trade for veteran ballplayers.”

Dallas To Stay Away From RBs In The First Round?

While some draft analysts have linked the Cowboys to Georgia RB Todd Gurley and Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon in the first round, Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas isn't buying it:

With a few weeks to go before the draft, I don’t think you will see the Cowboys draft a runner in the first round. I think there is a good chance you will see Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon go before the Cowboys pick.

I think Jay Ajayi could be a good thought in the second round, but something tells me to keep an eye on T.J. Yeldon. He is a solid all-around back. I don’t think he would be there at No. 91 when the Cowboys pick in the third round, so I’d say he goes in the second round, even if No. 60 might be a little rich.

Miami RB Duke Johnson Wants To Play For Dallas

Keeping with this roundup's running-back theme, Miami Hurricanes RB Duke Johnson has thrown his name into the ring when it comes to the Cowboys' needs in the backfield.

“In college, we ran the same outside zone scheme, so I’m kind of familiar with it,” Johnson said on NFL Network. “I can run it, basically, in my sleep. I ran it so much in high school and I also ran it a lot in college. I think that system fits me well.”

Johnson is currently projected to fall somewhere in the second or third round.
