3 Most Overrated Cowboys Players In 2016

The Dallas Cowboys are healthy (for now) and have their sights set on a Super Bowl once again. Although the team has the best offensive line in the NFL and some great skill players, there are concerns, especially on defense. Making matters worse, the Cowboys are leaning on overrated players to exceed their play in recent years. Overrated players are simply a reality of the NFL, whether that be in terms of their contract or how they are viewed by the fanbase, others or the team. With that in mind, here are the three most overrated players on the Cowboys in 2016.

WR Terrance Williams

Last year was supposed to be the breakout season for Williams. After posting 37 catches, 621 yards and eight scores in 2014, Williams was supposed to take the leap and become a bona-fide No. 2 WR. That didn't happen. The injury to Tony Romo hurt, but Williams failed to step up in the absence of Dez Bryant, grading out as the No. 50 WR in the NFL. His volume increased, but at the cost of his efficiency. Entering a contract season, Williams needs to play much better or he might not be brought back. Heck, Brice Butler might push him for playing time this year.

CB Brandon Carr

Carr simply hasn't lived up to the big contract Dallas gave him a few seasons ago. Orlando Scandrick has outplayed him by a wide margin and Carr has not looked like a No. 1 CB. Pro Football Focus ranked him 73rd among all corners, although that was up from 90th last year. If the Cowboys are going to make the playoffs, they'll need for Carr to step up his play. He took a pay cut this year, but could still be a cap causality next year if he doesn't step up his play.

FS J.J. Wilcox

A former third round pick, Wilcox has been the Cowboys' starting free safety the last two years. Now, he's firmly on the roster bubble as the Cowboys have figured out what much of the fanbase already knew: Wilcox isn't that good. Byron Jones will be a massive upgrade, and with Jeff Heath and Barry Church not going anywhere, Wilcox will need to fight for his roster spot. If Kavon Frazier continues to impress, the Cowboys might just decide to let Wilcox walk.
