Paddy McCarthy has emerged as the favourite to become the next permanent Crystal Palace manager, while a possible return for Roy Hodgson is also highly fancied.

On Friday morning, the south-east London club announced the departure of Patrick Vieira as first-team manager at Selhurst Park, alongside the exit of some of his backroom staff.

A statement issued by the Eagles stated the 'process to appoint a new manager is underway'.

Former Crystal Palace defender McCarthy, the current under-21s coach, is to take charge of the the first team against Arsenal on Sunday.
