Official Darren Cann axed from Crystal Palace match as he once PLAYED for them

Assistant referee Darren Cann has been axed from Crystal Palace's FA Cup clash with Manchester City after it was revealed he once played for the Eagles.

Cann played for Palace in the late 1980s, before ending his playing career and moving into officiating in 1991.

He ran the line for Howard Webb at the World Cup final in 2010, the ill-tempered match between Holland and Spain, which was sealed by Andres Iniesta's goal in extra time.

Cann was also on the books of his local club Norwich, but didn't make a first-team appearance fpor either club.
