Late in the game, the Jays trailing 79-78, Creighton had several chances to retake the lead. Sophomore guard Ronnie Harrell Jr. had a one-and-one opportunity from the free throw line late in the game, but missed the front end.
Moments later, sophomore guard Khyri Thomas missed a potentially game-tying 3-pointer, which was rebounded and scored by freshman center Justin Patton.
After Xavier missed one-of-two free throws that would follow, Creighton turned the ball over with less than 10 seconds remaining.
This proved to be detrimental as Xavier was able to hold on to the lead after a long series of late game dramatics.
