Crew SC declined the contract option on defender Emanuel Pogatetz, who started in 16 games this season, one of a flurry of roster moves that came Monday, a day after the team lost 2-1 to the Portland Timbers in the MLS Cup.
Pogatetz was a staple in the lineup until July, when struggles led to him losing his job to Tyson Wahl. Pogatetz appeared in only two regular-season games after July 11.
The Crew also parted ways with goalkeeper Matt Lampson, who started 13 games during the 2013 season but has not been used since. Lampson's contract was allowed to expire.
