Soccer | Crew must wait before using extra draft picks

Crew SC announced this afternoon that it has traded forward Jack McInerney to the Portland Timbers in exchange for both general allocation money and targeted allocation money.

Columbus obtained McInerney, 23, in August, sending a 2016 second-round draft pick to the Montreal Impact. He totaled two goals and one assist in five regular-season appearances and made two appearances in the playoffs.

“We felt this move put Jack in the best position to secure more playing time this year in MLS while also giving us additional salary cap flexibility as we continue to build our 2016 roster,” said Crew sporting director and coach Gregg Berhalter.
