Soccer | Crew: Injured Sauro out 4 months

Crew SC defender Gaston Sauro suffered a torn knee ligament during a scoreless tie at Toronto on Saturday and is expected to miss at least four months, coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter said this morning.

Sauro, the Crew’s second-highest paid player ($601,000), suffered the injury to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee as he made contact with Toronto forward Sebastian Giovinco in the 31st minute in Toronto.

Sauro was replaced by rookie midfielder Rodrigo Saravia in the 35th minute and Saravia went on to play the remainder of the game out-of-position in Sauro’s center back spot.
