One of college soccer’s best defenders is coming home to play for Crew SC.
Gahanna product Alex Crognale, a towering center back who led the University of Maryland to an undefeated regular season, is signing an MLS homegrown contract with the Crew, a league source told The Dispatch on Monday night. The deal is expected to be announced next week.
Coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter told the newspaper in October the franchise intended to exercise the league rule that allows teams to sign local players and ones from their development academies before they enter the draft.
