Crew SC has signed free-agent defender Corey Ashe, the club announced on Friday.
Ashe, 29, has been in Major League Soccer for nine seasons. He appeared in 211 games and three MLS Cups for the Houston Dynamo from his rookie season in 2007 until midway through the 2015 season, when he was traded to Orlando City FC.
“Corey has the ability to get forward. He’s a natural winger,” Crew coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter said. “We like that he’s very comfortable in the attacking third, and he puts a very good cross in.”
Ashe, who was an MLS All-Star in 2011 and 2013, said he decided to sign with the Crew because of his comfort level with Berhalter and his staff, plus the team’s style of play and its recent success.
