In the third period of the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets matchup Tuesday, the referees missed a huge penalty call on Jeff Skinner just moments before he scored the game-tying goal to force overtime.
With just over a minute and a half to play in regulation, Skinner took CBJ centerman Lukas Sedlak out of the play with a collision near center ice. Immediately after, Markus Hannikainen attempted to get the puck out of the CBJ zone, but Skinner caught it in mid-air, threw it down to the ice and fired it past Sergei Bobrovsky to tie the game at one apiece.
