Voronkov was a revelation when he came over from Russia two years ago. Sold to us as a physically imposing bottom 6 guy with some skill he has rapidly become a top line caliber player. “Voro” has surprisingly soft hands and is a tremendous net front player. He’s great at getting pucks off the wall and to his teammates in scoring chances and is a menace on the forecheck, deftly swatting clearing attempts or passes out of mid-air. Per Moneypuck, the Voronkov-Monahan-Marchenko line was one of the best in the regular season in the NHL. Of line combinations that played more than 200 minutes together at 5v5 they were in the top 20 in xG% and generated expected goals for at the 7th best rate, over 3.
