FORT COLLINS — At the halfway point, the Rams are break-even in the standings, sitting 2-2 after a non-conference schedule that included a trio of Power 5 teams.

It established a daunting proposition to a team that had some serious questions to answer this season, but in a few areas the Rams have definitely taken some steps forward as Mountain West play approaches after the bye week.

A defense which hadn't produced many turnovers now has done so. A coaching staff seeking to create competition and depth has seen it start to develop from the younger ranks of the roster, and an offensive line that allowed just eight sacks a season ago is measuring up just fine through injuries that have stalled the rebuilding process.
