Tuesday night brought the swing in baseball karma the Rockies had been grinding for.
Colorado’s win over Philadelphia, coupled with losses by Los Angeles and St. Louis, not only jumped the Rockies ahead of the Cardinals for the second wild card. With five games to play, the night also gave LoDo’s team complete control over its destiny for a first-ever National League West title.
The Rockies (87-70) sit a half-game behind the Dodgers (88-70) entering Wednesday night’s game against the Phillies, but the divisional foes are even in the loss column.
That means no matter how Los Angeles fares in its final stretch, if the Rockies win out, they will force a tie for the divisional title.
