Ubaldo Jimenez makes 2020 spring training debut for Rockies, yielding one run across two innings

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The calendar says 2020, but the baseball gods seemed to wind back time Wednesday at Salt River Fields as Rockies fans got a renewed look at Ubaldo Jimenez.

The veteran right-hander, attempting a comeback as a nonroster invitee, made his first Cactus League start of the spring against the Rangers. Jimenez threw two innings, giving up one run on two hits in the second frame after a blemish-free first.

“I’ve been out of baseball for two years, so today was a meaningful game for me,” Jimenez said. “I had to keep telling myself, ‘Hey, just relax and don’t try to do too much,’ because it was the first time I’ve been out there in a while.
