PHILADELPHIA — Tyler Chatwood’s back problems are back, and that’s not good news for the Rockies.
The right-handed starter, so dominant on the road this season, experienced upper-back spams in Colorado’s 7-6 loss to the Phillies Sunday afternoon. The back pain, which flared up in the first inning and nagged him throughout his four-plus innings on the mound, clearly affected his performance.
“It stayed tight and I tried to pitch through it, but obviously that wasn’t the smartest decision,” said Chatwood, who was charged with six runs (four earned), on six hits. He also walked five, although one was intentional.
