Twins reportedly hire away Rockies first base coach Tony Diaz

Rockies manager Bud Black will have at least one offseason vacancy to fill on his staff.

The Twins are reportedly hiring Colorado first base coach Tony Diaz to become their third base coach under new manager Rocco Baldelli, according to MLB.com reporter Rhett Bollinger.

Diaz, 41, just completed his second season on Colorado’s major league staff under Black after spending the 17 prior seasons as a minor league coach or supervisor in the Rockies organization. He also was a mentor to many of the Latino players on the Rockies and served as the team’s Spanish interpreter.
