Early in the game, the story was the long ball. Carlos Gonzalez opened up the scoring with a solo home run off of Max Scherzer in the first inning. It was his 25th of the season. In the bottom of the second, Ryan Zimmerman and Jayson Werth hit back to back homers off of Yohan Flande. Zimmerman added another in the third inning to make it a 3-1 game. In the fourth, Daniel Descalso (!) hit a solo home run off of Scherzer to cut the Nationals' lead to 3-2.
