We’ve grown accustomed to some Bud Black-isms over the years with phrases like:
“That’s baseball.”
“We need to play better.”
But a recent phrase that has stuck out more during the Colorado Rockies' horrendous start to the season is typically something along the lines of, “We ran into a good pitcher.”
Now, this isn’t exclusive to 2025, as Black has said something to that effect for the last few years about facing good pitchers. The issue has more so been the latter part that typically accompanies that explanation for the struggle.
To paraphrase, “We just couldn’t solve him.
