Sizing up the Rockies’ very quiet offseason — and what still might happen

The Rockies have had a very quiet offseason. No major free-agent signings and no major trades, at least not so far.

This was not unexpected. Remember, that despite a 91-loss season, owner Dick Monfort said the club was not going to make a “big splash” during the offseason. Indeed Monfort, as well as general manager Jeff Bridich, indicated that major personnel changes were not needed.

Better performances from those already on the roster? Certainly. But a major shakeup? Nope.

“When some teams don’t play good over a long period of time, they choose to do a (rebuild), but our goal is to play better and to win,” Monfort said at an end-of-season press conference.
