Unlike last night, the Rockies were able to preserve the 5-3 lead they took into the ninth inning.
For the second straight day the Colorado Rockies entered the ninth inning with a 5-3 lead over the San Diego Padres, but this time it was different, as Carlos Estevez preserved the win and earned his first career save.
After retiring the final batter of the eighth, Jason Motte allowed a leadoff double and hit a batter in the ninth before being replaced by Estevez, who got a fly out and a pop out before Nick Hundley caught pinch runner Travis Jankowski attempting to steal to second to end the game, thanks in no small part to an excellent tag by DJ Lemahieu.
