SAN DIEGO — OK, I’ll admit it, I got caught up in the Rockies’ early season promise. Again.
Trevor Story’s home run explosion, Nolan Arenado’s continuing excellence, a solid performance by the back of the bullpen and encouraging starting pitching from Tyler Chatwood and Chad Bettis caused me to lose my perspective. Add in the promise of Jon Gray and the faith that Carlos Gonzalez would eventually escape from his annual spring malaise and I got excited for what the 2016 season might bring.
But then came a 2-5 homestand and Friday night’s 4-0 loss to the Padres in which Arenado blew his top and former Rockies starter Drew Pomeranz dominated like Clayton Kershaw.
