Purple Row's Bobby DeMuro has a nice scouting report of the recently promoted left-handed starter Sam Howard. It's a lesson that players don't stop evolving after they enter into a system. Drafted out of Georgia Southern University in the third round of the 2014 draft, the Rockies started Howard on the slow road to the majors. He pitched in rookie ball in 2014 before logging a full season in Asheville in 2015. His 2016 mid-season promotion from High-A to Double-A is a testament to his quick development.
In particular, Howard has sharpened his slider, which he can throw for strikes.
