Remember the type of can’t-ignore September that David Dahl had last year, when he swatted nine homers in a month that forecast his all-star campaign this year?
Well, rookie Sam Hilliard is having one of those Septembers. The former 15th-round pick, who made his debut Aug. 27, now has five home runs this month and seven overall after a two-out, equalizing pinch-hit homer in the ninth inning. The outfielder’s dinger eventually resulted in a 3-2, 10-inning victory over Milwaukee in the penultimate game of the season.
“I realize what they’re trying to do over there (in the playoff chase), and that it was a huge game,” Hilliard said.
