Rockies won't rush their pitching prospects, but the arms are waiting

SAN FRANCISCO — Eddie Butler is the canary in Coors Field's coal mine. The 25-year-old, red-bearded right-hander was called up recently for another shot in the Rockies' rotation. He means to make this stay lengthy.

"Third time, it better be," he said.

It's only early May, but Colorado's arm corps already is reeling. Just as Tyler Chatwood and Chad Bettis forge a new optimistic look as the 1-2 face of pitching at altitude, other starters have faltered. Opening-day starter Jorge De La Rosa is injured.
