The Rockies rookie will look for his fourth straight strong start against San Diego.
DENVER — The Colorado Rockies will give the ball to rookie Jon Gray in tonight’s series opener against the San Diego Padres, looking for their fifth win in six games.
Gray is looking for his fourth straight quality start, having allowed just six runs on 14 hits in 20 1/3 innings in his last three outings, with seven walks and 22 strikeouts in that stretch, good for a 2.66 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.
“With Jon, I think a lot of it comes down to just belief, knowing he can pitch here, knowing he belongs here,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss said.
