Rockies to DFA Chris Iannetta, select contract of Dom Nuñez

The Rockies plan to “part ways” with Chris Iannetta and select the contract of Triple-A catcher Dom Nuñez, according to Thomas Harding. That likely means Iannetta will be designated for assignment sometime Tuesday.

Iannetta hit .222/.311/.417 in 52 games in 2019, the second year on his two-year contract. He’s been the Rockies’ second catcher for most of the season, as last year’s number two Tony Wolters has made strides at the plate while also maintaining his performance behind the plate and with the pitching staff.

By far Iannetta has appeared in more games in Rockies history than any other catcher.
