Rockies still have roster needs this offseason but consider themselves a playoff contender in 2020

Winter Meetings Primer
Baseball’s annual winter meetings begin Monday in San Diego. Here’s a look at the Rockies’ needs:

Philosophy: Despite coming off a 71-91 record, the Rockies still consider themselves a playoff contender in 2020. At least that’s how owner Dick Monfort, general manager Jeff Bridich and manager Bud Black tried to frame things at the end of the season. Colorado is counting on bounce-back performances from left-hander Kyle Freeland and first baseman Daniel Murphy, among others.

Pressing needs: The club is seeking a veteran, right-handed-hitting catcher to pair with left-handed-hitting Tony Wolters.
