Rockies’ simulated home opener raising money for food banks in Colorado and Wyoming

The Rockies are intent on having a special home opener, somehow, someway.

Even though the coronavirus pandemic has wiped out Friday’s scheduled opener at Coors Field, and even though no actual baseball will be played, the Rockies have put together a unique experience fans can enjoy from the comfort and safety of their homes.

The club is billing the dual event as the “Stay at Home Opener” and “Feed the Rockies.”

“We wanted our fans to have some sort of opening day here in Colorado, because it is always such a holiday for our city, state and region, and we wanted to make it a safe celebration for all,” owner Dick Monfort said in a statement.
