PHOENIX — Perseverance paid off for the Rockies in a wild Saturday night of baseball at Chase Field. Trailing all night, and striking out 13 times, the Rockies still patched together a three-run ninth inning to beat the Diamondbacks 7-6.
Mark Reynolds, the Rockies’ MVP of April, tied the game 6-6 with a two-out, two-run, bases-loaded single off Arizona closer Fernando Rodney to tie the game. Up until that point, the Rockies were 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Rodney made his nightmare inning worse by uncorking two wild pitches, including a bouncer to the backstop that allowed Carlos Gonzalez to sprint home with the go-ahead run.
