Thursday was an ugly showing by the Colorado bats considering the Rockies didn’t muster their first hit until the seventh inning, but one bright offensive spot came via Ryan McMahon’s first career home run.
McMahon, who played third base amid a rest day for Nolan Arenado, crushed a 1-1 pitch from Hector Neris 410 feet to straightaway center to open the eighth inning in Colorado’s 9-3 loss.
“He got an offspeed pitch out over the plate, and he drove it,” manager Bud Black said. “That was good see, and hopefully that’s a confidence builder for Mac.
