Rockies rookie Brendan Rodgers faces difficult task replacing Trevor Story

LOS ANGELES — Trevor Story’s thumb injury equals opportunity for rookie infielder Brendan Rodgers, the No. 1 prospect in the Rockies organization.

Nolan Arenado, Colorado’s perennial all-star third baseman, has some words of advice for Rodgers: “We don’t need him to be Trevor Story. We just need him to be Brendan Rodgers. Trevor Story is a special player, and Brendan Rodgers is going to be a special player, too, but we don’t need him to force things now. The game is faster up here, and he’s got to learn that quickly.”

Rodgers was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday to replace Story, who sprained his right thumb and is probably on the injured list for two weeks.
