Rockies’ Riley Pint, former top pick, returns to baseball with “sense of clarity”

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Riley Pint was back on the mound Wednesday, throwing against hitters during live batting practice.

For most pitchers, that’s a rite of spring. For the Rockies’ 6-foot-7, 24-year-old right-hander, it was a big test.

“It was good, nothing out of the ordinary,” Pint said as he walked back toward the minor league clubhouse at Salt River Fields.

For Pint, the fourth overall draft pick in 2016 who got a $4.8 million signing bonus, “nothing out of the ordinary” was a very good thing, especially when you consider that he retired from baseball last June.
