Rockies’ prospect Michael Toglia: Glove looks golden, bat needs work

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — John Savage, the longtime baseball coach at UCLA, recently made a prediction about Michael Toglia.

“When he grows into himself, watch out,” Savage said.

Sunday, as the Rockies’ minor league players reported for spring training at Salt River Fields, Toglia, the Rockies’ projected first baseman of the future, was cool, confident, and eager for baseball to begin. Even if the big-leaguers remain absent because of the ongoing lockout.

“Every year we get to play this game it’s exciting,” said the switch-hitting Toglia, the Rockies’ first-round pick in 2019 out of UCLA.

Toglia (pronounced Toe-Lee-Awe), is an impressive-looking first baseman.
