Rockies’ prospect Colton Welker turning heads with his swing at Class A-Advanced Lancaster

The Rockies don’t need a third baseman anytime in the immediate future. But while all-star Nolan Arenado continues to cement himself as one of the best players in the majors, Colton Welker is simultaneously building his reputation as a rising third baseman in the minors.

After an impressive 2017 season in which Welker hit .350 with a .901 OPS at Class-A Asheville, the Coral Springs, Fla., native is turning heads early in 2018 at Class-A Advanced Lancaster.

There, in one of the minor’s most hitter-friendly ballparks, Welker is batting .313 through 19 games while also flashing power by way of four homers and four doubles.
