Rockies pitcher German Marquez: “Really good communication” with catcher Elias Diaz helped spur 1-hitter vs. Pittsburgh

What do you say to a guy who’s three outs away from a no-hitter?

“Really, not much,” Rockies catcher Elias Diaz said Tuesday night after shepherding Colorado starter German Marquez to an 8-0 win over Pittsburgh, a victory in which the righty allowed only one hit — a single by Ka’ai Tom to lead off the top of the ninth.

“I sometimes just say, ‘Hey, let’s execute these pitches and just keep going.’”

Diaz had it going on all fronts Tuesday night at Coors Field, launching a solo home run in the fifth, a 451-foot shot that stretched the Rockies’ lead to 3-0.
