Rockies outfielder Raimel Tapia organizes drive for food, supplies in his hometown in the Dominican Republic

Back home in the Dominican Republic, Rockies outfielder Raimel Tapia is doing his own small part to help his fellow citizens of San Pedro de Macoris amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Two weeks ago, Tapia organized a drive for food and supplies such as toiletries, surgical masks, gloves and more necessities. The 26-year-old then distributed the food and supplies to approximately 150 families in the city.

Tapia said that he was “unable to just sit at home and do nothing while knowing that others within his community were in dire straits and unable to feed themselves.” He believes as a professional player for the Rockies, he had a “moral obligation” to step up somehow.
