Nolan Arenado‘s star just keeps shining brighter, while Bud Black’s reputation as one of baseball’s best managers got another boost.
Arenado, the Rockies’ all-star third baseman, who just pocketed his sixth consecutive Gold Glove, on Monday was named a finalist for National League MVP as voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez and Milwaukee outfielder Christian Yelich are the other finalists.
Yelich, who had a monster September as the Brewers won the NL Central title, is considered the heavy favorite. The winner will be announced Nov. 15.
Joining Black as finalists for NL manager of the year are Milwaukee’s Craig Counsell and Atlanta’s Brian Snitker.
