Players’ Weekend is right around the corner on Aug. 23-25, when the Rockies visit St. Louis for a four-game series. Colorado is set to wear all-black uniforms for the weekend, and once again players across the majors get to put nicknames on the back of their jerseys and wear customized gear.
Some of Colorado’s nicknames are obvious — “Baby Dahl” for David Dahl, the well-known moniker “Chuck Nazty” for Charlie Blackmon — but a handful have a backstory that needs explaining. A rundown of a few of those Rockies nicknames:
