Rockies need much more production from their catchers in 2021

The Rockies’ catching needs some work, at the plate and behind it.

Colorado’s OPS from its catchers was just .551, ranking 28th in the majors. The Rockies hit only two home runs, both by backup Elias Diaz.

The Rockies were charged with just one error in 2020, but ranked in the bottom third when it came to throwing out base stealers (17%, 6-for-35).

While No. 1 catcher Tony Wolters has earned the trust of his pitchers and manager Bud Black, and while he’s become an excellent game caller, he was not adept at throwing out base stealers in 2020 (15% 3-for-20).
