Rockies Insider: Colorado fans might be enduring the most disheartening offseason in franchise history

After the crushing disappointment of 2019, when the Rockies lost 91 games after coming into the season with serious postseason aspirations, this offseason isn’t doing much to help the morale of a largely pessimistic fanbase.

In fact, it might just go down as the most disheartening winter in franchise history as Colorado currently stands as one of just two MLB teams — along with the Cubs — to have spent $0 on major league contracts this offseason.

Granted, in October owner Dick Monfort acknowledged that the Rockies wouldn’t be doing much in free agency this year, considering the club’s spending spree last spring (Nolan Arenado’s eight-year, $260 million deal and German Marquez’s five-year, $43 million extension) and that the club’s new, more lucrative TV deal wouldn’t kick in until 2021.
