Rockies hire Hensley Meulens as hitting coach, Warren Schaeffer as third-base coach

The Rockies needed to make some changes to recharge their stagnant, road-challenged offense.

To that end, the club hired Hensley Meulens as their new hitting coach and promoted Warren Schaeffer to third-base coach. Schaeffer had managed at Triple-A Albuquerque the past two seasons. The club announced the moves on Monday.

Meulens replaces Dave Magadan and Schaffer replaces Stu Cole, the two coaches who were not retained after the Rockies’ finished the 2022 season last in the National League West with a 68-94 record.

Meulens, 55, helped the Giants win three World Series championships as hitting coach from 2010-17 and was the bench coach in 2018-19.
