Rockies groundskeeper Mark Razum beat cancer, cherishes his 28th home opener at Coors Field

Mark Razum sat behind home plate at Coors Field Thursday afternoon, looking out at his perfectly manicured infield and the 2.66 acres of emerald grass that make up the largest outfield in the majors.

“Raz,” as everyone calls him, talked rather matter-of-factly about his nearly three-year battle with colorectal cancer.

But then the 60-year-old, who still has a kid’s passion for baseball, started talking about his wife, Amy, and all of those who have supported him through multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and all of the nasty side effects.

That’s when Raz teared up. Just a bit.
